In Thailand, a Marine Park has protected status, which in some way helps to explain the unspoilt nature of this stunning archipelago of 42 Islands. The marine park itself occupies 250 square kilometres of tropical waters and Islands; it literally is paradise. Only 2 of the Islands are inhabited, and they are by park officials, and tourist bungalows. Navigating through all the different Islands can be very confusing, especially if you are relying on names. The names seem to be descriptive of what the Island looks like, such as "sleeping cow Island" and "Three pillars Island". Ang Thong translates as "golden bowl", and the Islands are made up of limestone and karst topography- the perfect place to find caves.
Big Blue Tech has run a number of trips here in the past, and will be running more in the future. The trips are a combination of exploring the waters surrounding the Islands, and looking for caverns and caves. We involve divemaster trainees from dive schools all over koh Tao, with spaces being limited to boat space, making them first come-first served. Have a look on the Big Blue Dive Club facebook group to find out when we will be running trips here.
