BSAC Diving in Thailand

Many BSAC divers often get frustrated with the number of dives they can do in the UK- usually at weekends. Bad weather also means that some of these diving trips have to be cancelled or postponed too. We can hardly change the weather conditions, but the frustration it can cause is understandable.

As a BSAC Centre of excellence, Big Blue Tech Thailand offers BSAC courses all the way up to dive leader. As we dive every day of the year, and have warm tropical waters on our doorstep, these courses can be completed in a matter of days for ocean diver, and just a few weeks for dive leader. This is a great solution for those BSAC divers that really want to progress a little faster than the conventional route.

A BSAC Dive Leader is an equivalent qualifiation to the PADI and SSI divemaster programs. A BSAC dive leader is considered competent in planning dives for groups of divers and managing those dives and, if necessary, managing rescue situations. The dive leader course is comprehensive, consisting of a mix of classroom-based and practical lessons that give divers confidence to plan, lead and manage dives, and deal with emergencies. Leading a dive increases enjoyment, confidence and experience as a diver. Upon qualification, and if desired, depth can be built progressively to a maximum of 50m. Dive Leaders are also eligible to progress to Open Water Instructor.

Big Blue Tech Dive Leader program

The dive leader course can be completed in two weeks, and consists of 12 classroom lessons, 7 open water dives, 2 dry practical lessons and 20 dives (which may include the open water lessons), in a range of conditions. The course covers the role of the BSAC Dive Leader, Dive Planning and Management, Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) use (midwater deployment), dive leading demonstrations, basic life support with Oxygen administration and practical management of diving incidents, casualty assessment, dive planning, shot recovery by simple lift and review of rescue skills. The cost of the program is 30,000 baht; around 600 pounds, and includes all dives, and equipment. If you can fit more dives in during the two weeks, or are planning on staying longer, you won’t be charged any extra!

The one thing we cannot offer is cold water.. sorry about that! Once back in the UK, we recommend that dive leaders practice their new skills in with other dive leaders or more senior divers, in order to ensure they are competent in cold water and bad visibility.
